Why is there no sound when I type, and how do I fix it?

Typing sounds are controlled by a sound toggle in the top bar. If you hear nothing, first make sure the toggle is switched on, then check that your device volume is up and your browser tab is not muted. Some browsers also block audio until you click once on the page.

1Step 1 — Find the sound toggle in the top bar.
2Step 2 — Click it so the icon shows sound is on, then start typing.

Turn the sound toggle on

Look for the sound icon in the top bar and switch it on. This is the most common fix, the toggle is simply off. Learn more about what the sounds do in typing sounds.

Check device and browser

  • Raise your system and browser volume.
  • Make sure the browser tab is not muted (right-click the tab to check).
  • Click once anywhere on the page, since some browsers block audio until you interact with the page.

Still silent?

Try a different supported browser or reload the page. The steps below show exactly where the sound toggle is.
